Most organisations asking about AI have already been told what they should be doing, usually by someone selling it. An assessment is the other thing: an independent read of what you can actually absorb, from someone with no tool to sell you and no commission riding on the answer.
What it looks at
- Capability. What your people can do today, and how far that is from what a proposed change would need.
- Appetite. Who wants this, who is quietly dreading it, and whether the gap between them has been acknowledged.
- What is already happening. Staff using tools nobody approved is common, and it is a risk position whether or not anyone has written it down.
- Risk and obligations. Where privacy, record-keeping or client confidentiality make a popular tool a poor fit for you specifically.
- Sequencing. Which change should be first, on the basis that a first attempt which fails sets the whole thing back a year.
- The not-worth-doing list. Usually the most valuable page in the document.
What you get

If it is useful, the assessment feeds straight into an implementation roadmap. If it is not, you still have the document, and you are under no obligation to go further.
Common questions
What do we actually get at the end?
A written assessment you can hand to a board or an executive without translating it first: where the organisation stands, the specific things worth doing first, the things not worth doing at all, and what has to be true before any of it works. Plain English, because a report only your IT lead can read has not told the organisation anything.
How much of our time does it take?
Less than people expect. Most of what matters comes from short conversations with the people doing the work, rather than from a long document request. We will tell you exactly who we need to speak to before we start.
Is this useful if we have already started using AI?
Often more useful. Organisations that have already started usually have staff quietly using tools nobody has approved, which is a genuine risk position and one an assessment is good at surfacing. Finding out is better than not knowing.
Do you cover privacy and record-keeping obligations?
We flag where an obligation makes a popular tool a poor fit, and where a proposed use would put you somewhere you do not want to be. That is a flag, not a legal opinion, and where something needs a lawyer we will say so plainly rather than guess.
What does it cost?
Scoped and quoted per organisation. A twelve-person non-profit and a council are not the same assessment, and quoting them the same number would be wrong for one of them. Purchase orders and invoices are both fine.
What if the answer is that we are not ready?
Then that is the finding, and it is worth paying for. Knowing that the constraint is your processes rather than your tools saves considerably more than the assessment costs, and it is not something a vendor has any reason to tell you.
