I spent years in commercial aviation, managing the systems and the people that get an aircraft safely off the ground. So when I started teaching people to use AI, the metaphor was already sitting there. You do not need to understand the engineering to be the captain. You need to know what the instruments are telling you, when to trust the crew, and that you are the one in command.
You are the Captain. The AI tools are your crew. They do the heavy lifting and teach you the controls, but they never fly the plane. You do.
Who I am
I am Naomi Shiels, a Canberra-based former linguist, lawyer and commercial aviation manager, and the founder of Wild Hearts Publishing. I build with these tools every day.
Here is the part that matters most: I am not an engineer. I learned AI the same way you will, by showing up, trying things, failing at some of them, and keeping what worked. This course is what I kept.
There is no secret technical background you are missing. There is just a tool that is genuinely new, and a calm way to learn it.
Why I made this
Everyone around you seems to be using AI, some brilliantly, most badly and not telling you. The people who are nervous about it are not slow. They are sensible, and they have been handed something new without a plain-English manual.
I got tired of watching capable adults feel left behind by a tool that, once you cut through the hype, is not that hard to use well. So I built the manual I wished existed: no jargon, no rush, no pretending to be someone you are not. Just a clear path from curious-and-cautious to a calm, confident weekly habit, on your own terms.
