Cleared For Take-OffAcademy · AI for Grown-Ups
For cafes, venues, shops & salons

Fill the socials, draft the replies and write the promo between shifts.

You’re the Captain. The crew is here to teach you.

You’re flat out on the floor and in the kitchen, so the menus, the specials, the reviews and the supplier emails happen in the cracks. This course turns AI into the extra pair of hands that fills them, sensibly, and without the hype.

Module 1 is completely free. No payment required to start.

The whole philosophy in one idea

You are the Captain. The crew is here to teach you.

This isn’t a course where you sit back and let the technology fly. From the first minute, you’re in the pilot’s seat of your own journey with AI. You set the destination. You make the calls. You keep control of the aircraft, always.

You command

AI never flies the plane. It reads the instruments, drafts the flight plan and hands you the options. Every decision stays yours.

The crew serves & teaches

Your front-of-house crew: ChatGPT for fast social posts and promos, Claude for careful review replies and sign copy, Perplexity for comparing suppliers and prices, and Gemini if you live in Google Workspace. They do the heavy lifting and teach you the controls. They never take them.

You graduate in command

You finish not as a nervous passenger hoping the tech behaves, but as a confident captain who knows when to call the crew and when to fly solo.

The fear that keeps venues stuck

Let’s name it before lesson one

“I’m run off my feet all day, who has time to sit down and learn software?”

Fair. So we keep it to a few minutes between shifts, on your phone, in plain words. Every lesson is anchored to a job you already do: a social post, a review reply, the next promo, a supplier email, and shows you the fastest honest way to do it with AI. No coding, no income-course nonsense. Just time back.

CAPTAIN
Who built this

Naomi Shiels

A Canberra-based former linguist, lawyer and commercial aviation manager, and the founder of Wild Hearts Publishing. She has written 14 books and made 216 songs with AI, and she builds with these tools every day.

She is not an engineer. She learned to use AI the same way you will, by showing up, trying things, failing at some, and keeping what worked. This course is what she kept.

Where AI helps between shifts

The marketing and admin in hospitality and retail do not happen at a desk. They happen in the ten minutes before service, on your phone, while the coffee machine warms up. That gap is exactly where AI earns its keep. Here is what people actually use it for.

The daily special or the menu description. You know it is slow-cooked lamb shoulder with white beans. AI turns that into three lines that sound good on the board and on Instagram, without the word “delicious” doing all the work.

A week of social posts in one sitting. You give it the week ahead, the trivia night, the new gin, the Sunday roast, and it drafts seven posts you can skim, fix and schedule. Beats staring at a blank caption box at 9pm.

The tricky review. Someone left two stars and a paragraph. You are annoyed. AI drafts a calm, gracious reply that does not sound like a robot and does not pick a fight, so future customers see a venue that handles things well.

Supplier emails and orders. The short note chasing a late delivery, the order confirmation, the polite “we are switching providers” email. Plain, professional, done in a minute instead of sitting in your drafts for a week.

The words on the flyer. AI will not design your event poster, but it will write the headline and the body copy so the flyer says the gig starts at eight and the entry is free, clearly, before you drop it into Canva.

Rosters and the team group chat. The message explaining the new shift swap rules, or the gentle reminder about closing checklists, written once and written kindly.

And the quick email to the regulars. The “we are closed Monday for a private function” or the loyalty offer, in your voice, ready to send.

Be honest about the limit. AI does not run your floor, pull a beer, read the room on a Saturday night or know that table six always wants the window. It does not know your customers. What it does is draft the words, fast, so the socials and the admin stop falling to the bottom of the list every single week. Plain typing, quick answers, on the phone already in your apron pocket.

Common questions about AI for hospitality and retail

Who has time to learn software? You do not learn software. You type a normal sentence, like you are texting a mate, and it answers. A few minutes between shifts on your phone is genuinely enough. There is no manual.

Can it write my social posts? Yes. It drafts posts in your voice that you read, tweak and post. You stay in control of every word, so the brand still sounds like your place and not like a stranger wrote it. The draft just gets you off the blank page.

Is it expensive? No. The free versions do everything described here. You can run a cafe, a pub or a shop’s marketing and admin on the free tier and never hit a wall for this kind of work.
