Cleared For Take-OffAcademy · AI for Grown-Ups
For tradies & contractors on the tools

Get your evenings back, and an office offsider that never knocks off.

You’re the Captain. The crew is here to teach you.

You’re flat out on the tools all day, so the quotes, invoices, client texts and the Facebook page all wait until night. This course turns AI into the office offsider in your phone that does the writing and admin faster, sensibly, and without the hype.

Module 1 is completely free. No payment required to start.

A stylised light aircraft climbing from a runway at dawn, amber centreline dashes glowing below
The whole philosophy in one idea

You are the Captain. The crew is here to teach you.

This isn’t a course where you sit back and let the technology fly. From the first minute, you’re in the pilot’s seat of your own journey with AI. You set the destination. You make the calls. You keep control of the aircraft, always.

You command

AI never flies the plane. It reads the instruments, drafts the flight plan and hands you the options. Every decision stays yours.

The crew serves & teaches

Your on-the-tools crew: ChatGPT for fast quotes and Facebook posts, Claude for careful client replies and safety docs, Perplexity for comparing suppliers and prices, and Gemini if you live in Google. They do the heavy lifting and teach you the controls. They never take them.

You graduate in command

You finish not as a nervous passenger hoping the tech behaves, but as a confident captain who knows when to call the crew and when to fly solo.

The fear that keeps tradies stuck

Let’s name it before lesson one

“I’m flat out on the tools all day. I haven’t got time to sit at a computer learning software.”

Fair. So this isn’t computer school. It runs on the phone in your pocket, and every lesson is anchored to a job you already do at night: quoting, invoicing, chasing payment, replying to clients, comparing suppliers, posting to the Facebook page. We show you the fastest honest way to do each one with AI. No coding, no income-course nonsense. Just your evenings back.

CAPTAIN
Who built this

Naomi Shiels

A Canberra-based former linguist, lawyer and commercial aviation manager, and the founder of Wild Hearts Publishing. She has written 14 books and made 216 songs with AI, and she builds with these tools every day.

She is not an engineer. She learned to use AI the same way you will, by showing up, trying things, failing at some, and keeping what worked. This course is what she kept.

Where AI actually helps on the tools

You did not get into the trade to spend Sunday night writing quotes. But that is where a lot of nights go. AI will not run a cable, set a tile, or decide what a job is worth. What it does is the writing and the chasing, so the part that pays you stays the part you do, and the admin stops eating your evenings.

Here is where it genuinely earns its keep.

Turning a voice note into a tidy quote. Standing in the driveway after a site visit, you talk into your phone: replace the meter box, run a new sub-main, supply and fit four downlights, half a day’s work. Hand AI that ramble and it gives you back a clean, itemised quote in plain English. You put the prices in. You check every line. It just saves you typing the wording from scratch at 9pm.

Drafting variations and scope changes. The client wants the extra power point now they have seen the wall. AI writes the variation note clearly, so there is a written record before you do the work, not an awkward conversation about it after.

Chasing the invoice that is three weeks overdue. You do not want to be rude and you do not want to be a pushover. Ask for a firm-but-fair reminder and you get one. Polite, dated, asks for payment, no waffle. Send it and get on with your day.

Quick client texts and updates. Running late because the supplier let you down? “Write a short, friendly text telling the Hendersons I am held up and will be there by two.” Done in seconds, and it reads like a professional, not a bloke who can’t be bothered.

A first draft of a safety document. AI can rough out a SWMS or a method statement from your notes. Read it. It is a starting point, not a sign-off. The compliance call is yours, every time.

Comparing two supplier quotes. Paste both, ask what is actually different once you strip the formatting. It lays out the comparison. You still decide who you trust to deliver.

A Facebook post for the business. Finished a good bathroom? Describe it, ask for a short post for the page. Photos are yours; the caption takes thirty seconds instead of fifteen minutes of staring at the screen.

None of this touches the trade, the pricing judgement, or the compliance sign-off. That stays with you, where it belongs. It just hands you back the admin hours.

Common questions about AI for tradies

Can AI write my quotes for me? It writes the wording, fast, from a voice note or a few bullet points. It does not set the prices and it does not know your margins. You put the numbers in and read it before it goes out. Think of it as the bloke who types it up neatly while you make the calls that matter.

Is it hard to learn if I’m not techy? No. It is plain typing, the same as texting. You open a website, type what you want in normal words, and it answers. There is nothing to install if you do not want to, no settings to wrestle with, and no wrong way to ask. If you can send a text from the ute, you can do this.

Will it cost a fortune? No. The free versions are genuinely good enough for quotes, reminders, texts, and posts. Plenty of tradies never pay a cent. The paid plans exist for heavy daily use, but start free and only think about upgrading if you actually hit a limit, which most sole operators never do.
